Congratulations to 7th grade student Tea Freeman who won a writing contest hosted by Scope Magazine. The editors of Scope wrote to Tea: "We loved your careful consideration of the many ways an object can have value, and how you described the sentimental worth of Laurel and Trevor's family objects in Rebecca Behrens' short story, Lost & Found. Beautifully articulated!" Tea's prize was a copy of the YA novel Summertime by Allie Condie. Congratulations, Tea!

Patton at Kennett Head Start
Patton Middle School Student Council visited the Kennett Square Head Start Program on Tuesday, May 3rd. The Student Council donated over 100 bilingual and English children’s books for the Literacy Initiative supported by Project Head Start. While at the facility, the council members bonded with the youngsters by reading, sharing circle time activities, and engaging the students in puzzle making, clay cutting and tower building. Another main focus of the visit was to organize and establish a lending library from which the preschoolers will greatly benefit. Teachers at the facility shared with our students the importance of the lending library to the students and their families. This experience was as important and enriching to our middle school students as it was to the Head Start children! We are hopeful that this experience will be the beginning of an ongoing relationship with this special school. Our council members will be attending the graduation celebration of these students on Thursday, May 19 and handing out special books to each young student to honor their accomplishments. We are #PattonProud!
